This tension can be supplied by our muscles contracting. It can also be supplied by the weight of our bones being allowed to sink downwards with gravity. It can also help in learning tips and techniques on self-health management. More importantly, a yoga retreat provides a clearer direction towards a peaceful way of existence. Breast Cancer Affecting Women

Breast cancer can affect women and men alike and is the second most common type of cancer worldwide next to lung cancer. Breast cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death worldwide. Among women, this cancer is the most common cancer worldwide. It is more prominent in industrially developed countries than in countries not industrially developed.
There are plenty of signs or symptoms involved with detecting breast cancer. The most notable sign or symptom is the discovery of a lump. This lump usually feels different than the surrounding tissue. More than 80 percent of cases are discovered by the woman doing a self-test and finding a lump on the breast according to the Merck Manual. The first red flag discovered by doctors is through mammograms according to American Cancer Society.
Breast Cancer Symptoms
Having breast cancer is no longer the death sentence that it used to be. The medical profession has made some amazing strides in breast cancer detection and treatment options. However, the key to having the best chance of survival is early detection. That is why every woman owes it to herself and needs to educate herself on the five most common warning signs of breast cancer.
The most common sign of breast cancer is noticing a lump in the breast or a thickening of the breast. Breast lumps can often be just fatty tissue and not cancerous, but that is the first sign that normally sends people to go see their doctor to have a thorough examination.
Tips on Breast Cancer
New information has been discovered by research about the causes of breast cancer. It is now believed that genetic and/or hormonal factors are the main risk factors for breast cancer. Doctors can identify how cancer has spread by using staging systems and this helps them to make the best decisions in regards to treatment options. These treatments options can include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy, biological therapy and treatment choices by stage.
The best thing that women can do is try to prevent breast cancer before it happens. You should try to eliminate undue stress in your life and this may require you to make a change in your current lifestyle. You should eat a proper diet and make sure that you participate in a regular exercise program.
Treatment For Breast Cancer
According to Lothar Hirneise, world renowned cancer researcher, cancer cannot exist without stress. And there are a number of reasons for this.
1. When the mind is under constant stress the body produces high levels of the stress hormone Cortisol. Consistent high levels of Cortisol in the body suppress the immune system. The immune system is responsible for destroying rogue cancer cells in the body.
2. When the mind is under constant stress the body releases and is eventually depleted of Adrenaline. People with cancer possess virtually no adrenaline in their cells. Instead, the cells of cancer patients are overloaded with insulin and too much sugar.
Surgery is one option for breast cancer treatment. When surgery is indicated, there are several different types your surgeon may perform. In a mastectomy, the entire breast is removed. In a lumpectomy, just an area of the breast containing the cancer is removed. The choice depends on many factors. Your health care professional can help you to understand these factors.
Chemotherapy is another breast cancer treatment that is fairly common. Chemotherapy affects the entire body by going through the bloodstream. The goal is to rid the body of any cancer cells that could have possibly spread from the breast into other parts of the body. Today this type of treatment is much more effective with fewer side effects than in previous years.
Risks of Colon Cancer in Women and Men

Â
Cancer occurs when something goes wrong with this system, causing uncontrolled cell division and growth. Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. Most cases of colon cancer begin as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps. Rectal cancer is cancer of the last 6 inches of the colon. Together, they’re often referred to as colorectal cancers.
Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer killer overall and third most common cause of cancer-related death in the United States in both males and females. Who is at risk for colorectal cancer. Men tend to get colorectal cancer at an earlier age than women, but women live longer so they catch up with men and thus the total number of cases in men and women is equal. Women diagnosed with uterine or ovarian cancer before age 50 are at increased risk of colorectal cancer. Woman with a personal history of breast cancer have only a very slight increase in risk of colorectal cancer. The average age to develop colorectal cancer is 70 years, and 93% of cases occur in persons 50 years of age or older. You have a higher risk for colon cancer if you have:
Cancer elsewhere in the body.
Colorectal polypsCrohn’s disease
Family history of colon cancer
Personal history of breast cancer
Ulcerative colitis.
What are the symptoms of colorectal cancer. Symptoms of colorectal cancer vary depending on the location of the cancer within the colon or rectum, though there may be no symptoms at all. The most common presenting symptom of colorectal cancer is rectal bleeding. Cancers arising from the left side of the colon generally cause bleeding, or in their late stages may cause constipation, abdominal pain, and obstructive symptoms. On the other hand, right-sided colon lesions may produce vague abdominal aching, but are unlikely to present with obstruction or altered bowel habit. Other symptoms such as weakness, weight loss, or anemia resulting from chronic blood loss may accompany cancer of the right side of the colon.
If your doctor learns that you do have colorectal cancer, more tests will be done to see if the cancer has spread. Colonoscopy is currently the only test recommended for colorectal cancer screening in average-risk persons at 10 year intervals. Colonoscopic surveillance (also called screening colonoscopy) needs to be available at more frequent intervals for individuals at high risk for colon cancer (for instance, those with a personal history of colorectal cancer or adenomatous polyps; family history of colorectal cancer; non-hereditary polyposis; colorectal cancer; or a pre-disposing condition such as inflammatory bowel disease.
The first step to avoiding this ailment is prevention with regular tests at the doctor, but there are other ways of getting around this disease in between checkups. Nevertheless, it appears that increasing the fiber content in the Western diet would be useful in the primary prevention of colorectal cancer. It is recommended that physical activity messages promoting at least 30-45 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity on most days of the week be included in primary prevention interventions for cancer. The population prevalence for meeting proposed physical activity criteria for colon cancer prevention is low and much lower than that related to the more generic public health recommendations.
Our bodies need lots of calcium and not only for building strong bones. Colon cancer prevention is one of the most exciting uses for calcium. However, instead of using calcium supplements, this study relied on low-fat dairy products to supply 1,200mg calcium per day. Investigators found this amount of calcium decreased the incidence of changes in the cells lining the colon, which is often seen in the initial stages of colon cancer. A significant protective factor is adequate dietary calcium intake during the period of maximum growth, ages 9 and 25 years, so that proper peak bone mass is achieved by age 20and 30 years and maintained until mid-life, with only slow bone loss in the following years. As already noted, dietary surveys indicate a significant gap between the recommended calcium intake and the actual intake in the United States in the critical years of adolescence and young adulthood and later in life.
Breast Cancer Symptoms For Women

She wanted to ask me about something she had read in the breast cancer magazine that she receives. Breast Cancer Symptoms For WomenAmongst the ads and informational articles about breast cancer treatment, was a recommendation that she include something called turmeric in her diet, and she wanted to know what it is and how she could most easily incorporate it into her eating plan. I was so happy to oblige her with information, since I think it may really help!
Turmeric is that bright yellow spice that gives mustard its distinctive yellow color and is used in Indian curries. It comes from the root of the Curcuma Longa plant and is sometimes called “Indian Saffron.” It is native to India and Southeast Asia, although its warm, peppery flavor is popular around the world. Although turmeric has been used for thousands of years, recently it has been added to the list of “super” foods for a variety of reasons:
Anti-inflammatory
Inflammation is your body’s response to cellular injury that, if prolonged, can lead to disease. The pigment in turmeric, which is called “curcumin,” has been shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory-and without the side effects of many drugs that are sold for this purpose. According to a study done at the University of Michigan, curcumin gets into the cells and makes them more orderly, allowing the cell membranes to have better control over substances that flow in and out of the cell and thus providing a protective effect against malignancy and infection. This has implications in the prevention of cancer, arthritis and other diseases.
Anti-oxidant
The curcumin in turmeric has anti-oxidant capabilities, which helps protect your body against the cell damage caused by free radicals. The bright yellow color of turmeric is a clue to its anti-oxidant properties, since the bright pigments in foods seem to have this protective power.
Aids liver in detoxification
Your liver works hard 24/7 to rid your body of all of the toxic substances that you inhale, ingest and produce as your body functions. There is good evidence that the curcumin found in turmeric may help the liver to detoxify certain toxic chemicals. This is significant, especially as our air, water and food become more toxic.
Cancer prevention
Due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and detoxing properties, the curcumin found in turmeric may help protect you against cancer. There is also evidence that curcumin helps the body to destroy cancer cells and thus may inhibit the growth of tumors. Studies have been done that demonstrate that those who consume turmeric regularly have a lower incidence of breast, prostate, colon and lung cancer.
Aid in preventing Alzheimer’s Disease
As our population ages, there is increasing concern about the prevalence of mental disease such as Alzheimer’s. A number of studies have been done which show that several active ingredients in turmeric may affect your body’s ability to ward off Alzheimer’s disease, including boosting your immune system, affecting gene coding and improving brain chemistry. Interestingly, the incidence of this devastating condition is very low amongst the old people of India, and it may be due, at least in part, to their daily consumption of turmeric in the curried foods that are popular in Indian cuisine.

Helps your heart
The curcumin found in turmeric has been shown to help your body to eliminate bad cholesterol (LDL) as well as helping to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. This protects your blood vessels from damage and helps to prevent the build up of plaque in your arteries. This is significant in reducing your risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular disorders.
Even weight control!
A recent study suggested that turmeric may even have a role to play in weight control! Apparently, the curcumin found in turmeric helps to slow the formation of body fat, even when a significant amount of fat is consumed in the diet. Although, I am not recommending a new “Turmeric Weight Loss Plan,” including turmeric in your diet can only help, especially when you consider all of its other benefits.
What about vitamins and minerals?
Like many spices and herbs, turmeric is a good source of the mineral, manganese. It also has significant amounts of Iron, Potassium and Vitamin B6.
How do I get turmeric into my diet?
Although enjoying some nice Indian curry may be one way to get some turmeric into your diet, it is certainly not the only way. In fact, curry powders often have less turmeric in them, than you might imagine.
Here are some ideas for incorporating turmeric into your diet:
You can make tea from turmeric by simmering a teaspoon of the powder in about four cups of boiling water for about 10 minutes. Strain the tea and sweeten, if desired. (There are also commercial turmeric teas available, if you prefer.) Some ginger root or a ginger tea bag may be added for additional benefits and flavor.
Add turmeric to egg salad, deviled eggs and macaroni salads. Add turmeric to soups, chili, meatloaf, or Sloppy Joes. Turmeric is a good seasoning for steamed cauliflower with a bit of oil and salt. Look for some Indonesian and Indian brown rice dishes that include turmeric or curry powder. (If they call for curry powder, you can add some extra turmeric.)
My friend with breast cancer wondered if she could take turmeric as a supplement. Of course that is a possibility, but with all the pills she is already taking, why add more, when there are so many ways to incorporate turmeric into her diet? I would also be leery of taking a “curcumin” supplement, since the whole food may be necessary to get all of the wonderful benefits.
Although I am thrilled that my friend is adding turmeric to her regimen, I am not suggesting that turmeric is a cure for breast cancer. However, every little thing we can do to help our bodies fight this savage disease, is a step towards beating it. In the case of turmeric, you get to enjoy the pungent flavor along with the numerous benefits.
I am convinced that what we eat and how we eat plays a major role in how we feel and particularly, how well we are. For this reason, I would like as many people as possible to become more aware of what healthy eating involves, and of the extreme benefits that can be found in being conscious of what and how we eat.

Fitness Is Declining Both Men And Women

Published in the latest issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, aware the people about Health and  show the study that claimed that men and women become gradually less fit with age, with declines accelerating after age 45.Maintaining a healthy body mass index (BMI), not smoking and being physically active are associated with higher fitness levels throughout adult life. To reach the conclusion, Andrew S. Jackson, P.E.D., of the University of Houston, and colleagues studied 3,429 women and 16,889 men age 20 to 96 who participated in the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study (ACLS). During the study, participants completed between two and 33 health examinations that included counseling about diet, exercise and other lifestyle factors along with a treadmill exercise to assess fitness.
During the study, participants completed between two and 33 health examinations that included counselling about diet, exercise and other lifestyle factors along with a treadmill exercise to assess fitness. Statistical models showed that while fitness levels declined continuously over time, the decrease was not linear or steady—cardiorespiratory fitness declined more rapidly after age 45. The decline for men was greater than that for women.
The U.S. population is aging and is becoming more obese and sedentary. It is well documented that the cardiorespiratory fitness of men and women declines with age and that body composition and habitual physical activity are related to cardiorespiratory fitness.” Low fitness levels increase the risk of diseases and interfere with older adults’ ability to function independently.
Statistical models showed that while fitness levels declined continuously over time, the decrease was not linear or steady-cardiorespiratory fitness declined more rapidly after age 45. The decline for men was greater than that for women.
The results also “showed that being active, keeping a normal BMI and not smoking were associated with substantially higher levels of cardiorespiratory fitness during the adult life span studied,” the authors write. “Being inactive and having a high BMI were associated with a lower age at which an individual could be expected to reach threshold cardiorespiratory fitness levels associated with substantially higher health risks.”
Given the high rates of obesity and low levels of physical activity previously observed in the general population, the results also suggest that more men and women will reach the fitness level designated by the Social Security Administration as representing disability at a younger age, the authors note. “These data indicate the need for physicians to recommend to their patients the necessity to maintain their weight, engage in regular aerobic exercise and abstain from smoking,” they conclude.
Background Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in adults decreases with age and is influenced by lifestyle. Low CRF is associated with risk of diseases and the ability of older persons to function independently. We defined the longitudinal rate of CRF decline with aging and the association of aging and lifestyle with CRF.
Methods We studied a cohort of 3429 women and 16 889 men, aged 20 to 96 years, from the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study who completed 2 to 33 health examinations from 1974 to 2006. The lifestyle variables were body mass index, self-reported aerobic exercise, and smoking behavior. Cardiorespiratory fitness was measured by a maximal Balke treadmill exercise test.
Results Linear mixed models regression analysis stratified by sex showed that the decline in CRF with age was not linear. After 45 years of age, CRF declined at an accelerated rate. For each unit of increase in body mass index, the CRF of women declined 0.20 metabolic equivalents (METs) (95% confidence interval, –0.21 to –0.19); that of men, 0.32 METs (–0.33 to –0.20). Current smokers of both sexes also had lower CRF (–0.29 METs [95% confidence interval, –0.40 to –0.19] for women and –0.41 METS [–0.44 to –0.38] for men). Cardiorespiratory fitness was positively associated with self-reported physical activity.

Colon Cancer Symptoms And Signs In Women

Cancer that affects the gastrointestinal tract can hit anywhere in the digestive tract, starting with the esophagus and then going to the gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and lastly, the rectum.
Colon Cancer Symptoms And Signs In Women
While we primarily think of asbestos as a carcinogen that attacks the lungs with cancers such as mesothelioma, it can actually cause gastrointestinal cancer as well. This is because asbestos can be ingested as well as inhaled. This happens when a person gets asbestos fibers in his or her mouth through exposure to things such as asbestos dust. The fibers can become caught in the saliva, which are then swallowed and passed into the digestive tract.
The problem with asbestos fibers, whether ingested or inhaled, is that our bodies cannot break them down. When they lodge into our systems, they are stuck there. Our bodies are forced to create nodules of extra tissue around the fibers, which can cause scarring that can turn into cancerous tumors. Additionally, these fibers are microscopic in scope, which means that you may not know that you are ingesting them.
Lung Cancer Secrets Revealed Click here
Sadly, the widespread use of asbestos during the 20th century meant that many people were exposed to the material before it was mostly banned in the late 1980s. While asbestos is not very susceptible to biodegradation, age and friction can both lead to the wearing down of the object containing the carcinogen, which leads to the release of fibers. For example, asbestos is often a part of brake pads. However, as we use our brakes, the friction from stopping the car leads to the breakdown of asbestos. When the pads are changed, it can release clouds of asbestos into the air.
Asbestos from the air can be ingested, resulting in gastrointestinal cancers. This is a broad spectrum of cancer that gains about 250,000 new cases per year in the United States alone. Some common types of gastrointestinal cancers include:
Colorectal – the third most common cancer overall in both men and women
Pancreatic
Stomach – also known as gastric
Anal
Extrahepatic bile duct
Esophageal
Gallbladder
Liver
Small intestine
When doctors operate to remove gastrointestinal cancerous tumors, it can remove parts of your body that are necessary to keep you alive. You may have to live on special intravenous liquid nutrition or have special reconstruction surgery to keep you functioning as normally as possible.

Colon Cancer Symptoms In Women

After an individual has colon cancer surgery there are several diet options that can prevent the colon cancer from reoccurring. Colon Cancer Symptoms In Women One of the biggest contributing factors to colon cancer is dietary fat. A diet that has a high fat consumption greatly increases the amount of bile acids that are released into the digestive tract. Once bile acids have entered the colon the acids can actually turn into secondary bile acids. These secondary bile acids can promote the growth of a tumor in the colon. It is very important that after colon cancer surgery, to prevent the cancer from reoccurring, to eat a diet that is low in fat.
Another great way to prevent colon cancer is to eat a diet that is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are praised as an important substance in fighting colorectal cancer and other cancers of the body. Antioxidants give the body’s immune system a boost that acts as a defensive line against harmful free radicals.
Foods that are rich in antioxidants are vegetables and fruits. Even some types of tea are rich in antioxidants. Two very important antioxidants are selenium and beta-carotene. These two antioxidants are responsible for helping the body repair the damage caused by dangerous free radicals. Doctors recommend that an individual eat foods that are rich in antioxidants instead of taking a supplement.

Folic acid, calcium and vitamin D are both valuable resources in the fight against rectal cancer. Folic acid helps to form new tissues and cells in the body. Plus folic acid is in charge of keeping the red blood cells healthy. Foods that are rich in folic acid are dark leafy green vegetables and citrus fruits. Recent studies have proven that both calcium and vitamin D play a big part in fighting off colon cancer. It is important to eat foods such as yogurt, cheese, milk, sardines, salmon, mustard and dark green leafy vegetables.
After colorectal cancer surgery an individual should pay attention to their fiber intake. Fiber is believed to improve the health of an individual by moving waste through the digestive tract at a faster speed. There are many foods that are good sources of fiber. Some of these foods are berries, prunes, whole grain cereals, fresh fruits, vegetables, brown rice and beans.
When following a special diet after rectal cancer surgery, make sure to choose foods to eat that come from natural plant sources. Also, limit the intake of high-fat foods. Many high-fat foods come from animal sources. Make sure to exercise on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy weight. After colon cancer surgery it is in an individual’s best interest to limit the consumption of alcoholic beverages. All of these suggestions can help in the fight against colon cancer.

Brain Cancer Symptoms In Women

When the child loses his hair, they must seek out hair replacement options, such as long-term Cancer wigs and other solutions that provide hair replacement for children.
Brain Cancer Symptoms In Women
When children are diagnosed with Cancer, they face a battle on two fronts: first, fighting the Cancer itself and the draining, ongoing medical fight that nearly always includes some form of chemotherapy and radiation. And when the effects of this battle have taken their toll, children face a battle on a second front; they suffer from hair loss, often requiring them to wear short or long-term Cancer wigs.
Cancer treatments have a battering effect on a child’s health and immune system and can seriously affect his or her appearance as well. Medical hair loss necessitating the use of Cancer wigs is the most common result of oncology treatments and might well be the one aspect of Cancer treatment that children dread the most. Why? Because it makes them feel and look different from their friends. It makes them look ill, even after they’re done with Cancer treatments. And by the time a child whose been through all this is feeling well and ready to jump back into life, hair loss may stand in their way.
No child really wants to feel different. Being bald, however, can make children the target of teasing and thoughtless comments from other children who don’t have the same filters or understanding adults do. A bad, ill-fitting wig on a child who needs a nonsurgical hair replacement for children option, such as Cancer Wigs is almost as bad as being bald. The emotional toll all of this teasing can take can be as devastating as the Cancer treatment itself, causing children to stay inside, decline invitations to parties and generally take a big step back from the recovery that will help them heal.

Charity organizations like Teens Unite Fighting Cancer are doing something about this situation. Aside from helping children with Cancer make connections with other kids like them, they are taking on the problem of medically-related hair replacement for children. They know what a financial burden the fight against Cancer can be. Prohibitive costs of Cancer wigs stop many child cancer patients from seeking out help. Teens Unite Fighting Cancer also knows that a good Cancer wig is worth its weight in gold. That’s why they have formed partnerships with some of the top medical hair replacement community’s leaders to help kids get new hair while their own grows back. Teens Unite Fighting Cancer has made it possible to for children fighting cancer to qualify for a grant to receive free nonsurgical hair replacement solutions like Cancer wigs and hair systems.
Caylee Bradhew, 14, had undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiation for a brain tumor. When she successfully finished with her treatments, she was left with no hair. Those who didn’t know her well stared at her when she returned to school. She overheard others laughing at her ill-fitting, drug store wig. She felt as if she’d never get her old self back again. Until she heard about TeensUniteFightingCancer.org/. Caylee applied for and received a grant for a new, beautiful hair system made of human hair – a high-end Cancer wig that mimicked her own hair down to the part. The first day she wore it was the first day she’d felt like herself since the whole Cancer ordeal began. And that was the day she really began to heal.
To qualify for a grant to have a Cancer wig or other nonsurgical hair replacement for children solution, the process is fairly straightforward and the application is not complicated. Because this charity and it’s partnering hair replacement company that provides the Cancer wigs understand the urgency of the problem, and the emotional toll oncology- induced hair loss has taken on the child, the waiting time is short – one to two months following application. After approval, the child (who must fall between the ages of 13-24) will visit a clinic to be fitted by an expert technician with a high-end Cancer wig.
What is a medical hair replacement system? It’s better than what most people think of as a “Cancer wig.” First, a medical hair system is made completely from human hair, hand-tied individually, strand-by-strand by an expert technician. The hair is tied onto a breathable mesh fabric that is lightweight and virtually undetectable, and can be worn day and night. These medical hair systems can be worn swimming, showering and playing hard. They will not come off like a typical Cancer wig. Children can rest easy with their new hair because no one will know it’s not their own hair. And when their own hair grows back in? No problem. The hair system allows for this comfortably.
